We’re at 501 Terrace Avenue in Chama, New Mexico, directly across the street from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad depot—a two‑minute walk to your train car.

Early arrivals are welcome to drop luggage with us until their room is ready.
No. The Iron Rail Inn is a lovingly restored two‑story building without an elevator. If stairs are a concern, please request a ground‑floor room when booking.
Chama sits at 7,860 ft and enjoys cool mountain evenings year‑round. Ceiling fans and operable windows keep rooms comfortable— there is no A/C on the property.
The inn is 100 % smoke‑free indoors. A designated outdoor smoking area is provided in the rear parking lot.
No. Instead, guests are invited to relax in our downstairs lounge, play a game of poor or round of darts in our upstairs game room or sip a delicious cocktail next to our two firepits on the deck overlooking the train yard.

Yes. From 9 AM onward we will securely store your luggage and place it in your room once housekeeping is complete.
Rooms & Amenities
No—each of our 13 rooms is unique. Bedding layouts range from single‑queen rooms to a family room with a trundle and a double‑queen suite of two joined rooms.
• 7 days or more before arrival: full refund of deposit.
• 48 hrs – 6 days: deposit converted to a credit voucher valid for 12 months.
• Less than 48 hrs or no‑show: deposit forfeited.
Our rooms do not include microwaves or refrigerators. This allows us to maintain a classic, uncluttered environment for our guests. Should you require refrigeration for medical necessities, please contact our front desk, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Free high‑speed Wi‑Fi provided by Starlink, flat‑screen TV, ceiling fan, private bath with walk‑in shower (or tub in the bunk room), plush linens, and locally‑roasted coffee service.
Yes, complimentary off‑street parking is included. Oversize or trailer parking is available with advance notice.
Downstairs rooms are limited and reserved for guests who cannot navigate the stairs.

Yes. A deposit equal to 50 % of the first night’s rate—or $80, whichever is lower— is charged at booking to hold your room.

Damages Policy:
Guests are responsible for any damage caused to the room, furnishings, fixtures, or hotel property during their stay. A minimum charge of $100 will be applied for any damage requiring repair, replacement, or excessive cleaning. In addition, towels that are stained or ruined will incur a charge of $25 per item, up to a maximum of $100 for towel-related damages. All charges will be assessed within 24 hours of check-out and upon inspection of the room, and the hotel reserves the right to charge the final amount to the card on file. By checking in, guests acknowledge and accept this policy.

The Iron Rail Inn occupies a railroad-era structure that has welcomed travelers for well over a century. Recent renovations (completed in 2025) preserved its original woodwork while upgrading every guest room.
Originally built to lodge rail crew and passengers, the building has seen many uses but has always provided hospitality tied to Chama’s steam‑train history.

Yes—the Iron Rail Inn Lounge with Crafted cocktails, local beers and delicious small bites is located on the ground floor and is open to the public as well as hotel guests.
No, you do not need a reservation, and we do not take reservations at this time.
Our restaurant serves lunch daily from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM and dinner from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Hours may be adjusted seasonally.
